The mechanical simplicity of the Lee Pro 1000 makes it sensitive to some issues. The following will list my own negative experiences and their solution. First
the 3 holes needed for installation in the plan are in U.S. units: the circumference of the hole is 0.9 mm, and in Italy (or better in EU) have only the hardware tools for the hole from 0.8 or 1. We should fall back on the art of the arrangement, utilizzandoo inevitably bore 10mm, without the holes at the fixing holes of the press, I personally have used cardboard to fill space in the hole and avoid any "game" of movements that can be created, (I recommend the space for the stem of the press, which must be able to stand up and fall without hindrance or clutches). Then I used 3 screws to 0.8 mm long and 8 cm and 6 washers after a good close, that's installed on top of our press.
A shot of oil to moving parts right now there is evil (Lee provides the press with life if it is done that little bit of cleaning and oliaggio).
now is to carry out tests, to have the correct length of the column that will push out the trigger without getting used too, but neither have the possibility that some particularly difficult triggers fail to be expelled (I noticed a higher hardness in the shells of Winchester, you too?).
The second test is that the 3rd stage: the ball must enter a correct and a total length of the complete cartridge equal to 2.95 cm MAX! (Tables to CIP hand). 2.9 to 2.95 is fine, and trust that is not much: just tap the crimp die that we will notice a huge difference on the final length of the cartridge.
A shorter length results in increased pressure within the shot, so all our attention on the amount of dust released will be in vain!
A greater length could result in a frame of the cartridge case being expelled from our shutter after shooting.
Do not be afraid to waste material, thanks to a kinetic hammer ball and cartridge case we get separated again.
Now comes the part that deserves more attention: the 2nd stage. We must ensure a perfect entry initiation into place and the right amount of dust in the cartridge case.
The phase arc is due to the first plate (saucer port triggers), which channels one by one and triggers the passage of the shell plate between the first and second stage (only if a cartridge case in place) a trigger that releases poggierĂ on a stand. With a push of the lever will get the entry in the initiation.
Often this trigger is resting upside down or moves, resulting in a cartridge case with a trigger shot, bent or curved.
This happens if the press swings on the plan, if there is a bit of dust that can block this channel also part of invitation or support for the primer.
sometimes happens that a striking fall in a small space between the end of channel and this popular support, thus jamming the press, and maybe in all of this we are stuck under the press, so running another round of military service, so that will free the cartridge case from the stadium, but the empty shell ready to enter the sequence of stages in a circle thus freeing up another (useless) added to the initiation of the first will create a complicated situation: a stuck trigger and another ready for insertion.
must stop the channeling of primers (a bent toothpick is the tool I use, and I have not found anything to replace him in this task!)
stop the entry of the collector cartridge cases from the case (the tower that leads in if the shells are ready for operations) close the exit of the powder, remove the shells from the stadiums and press "free" we will work to eliminate the triggers and take advantage of it stuck to clean the surface and mechanical parts. The manual is about 100 triggers that can be put into the dish, although there are easily 200 to pass, we keep this limit: the burden caused by all these triggers insertion into the canal could release two triggers rather than only during a transition from 1 to stage 2 with the above problems.
100 triggers is the right dose, and I suggest not to work with fewer than 10 initiators in the saucer, it creates the opposite problem: the little weight can not push a primer on the support, perhaps hampered by a couple grains of powder (gunpowder means ..). Further advice is that we pull with a rubber band (not much) a bit more saucer port triggers to the press, I noticed that kind of jam are much less frequent. After the ignition part
& co. Turning to the first dust. The release of the powder is ignited by the cartridge case to push upward, opening a valve that drops the desired amount of powder inside. Always MICROMETER TEST, EVEN IF THE WRITING TABLES OFFICIAL WEIGH FATE ALWAYS double check to ensure the correct quantity 'INPUT OF DUST! The system returns the valve in the closed position is taken by a metal chain, that when the valve is open (and the cartridge case is at the top) is in tension, and lowering the lever back down and lets you close the valve. The trick is finding the exact point of attachment be done properly because this mechanism.
After a couple of months of use, and just over 500 shots suddenly made the central column no longer flows up and down, the lever does not command more than the shell plate.
has loosened the screw of the pin vise. Simply tighten. I remember that the American press is, as much as the holes of the installation, the hexagonal screws also "talk" U.S. .. Need a set of Allen American, 5 € in armory and here they are (thanks Adri for lending me your first ..), the key question is how much 9 / 64. A pulled away and back to work.
One day I went to the range, recording transactions within the pitch. Loading, scarrello and the carriage will not close. remained for 5 mm aperto.Durissimo to open.
I have 100 shots of the exact length, but flared again and "chubby" at the mouth of the cartridge case. I crimped yes, but the restriction did not work.
has not loosened the screw of the crimping of the ball, but that of all the crimp dies. The resulting string and effettuole tests.
Other problems I have not personally had. As you can see although it is a robust, simple and compact pressing need for constant attention even if every detail. As a final point against the fact that we also pushed out of the triggers used are not accessible, take off the baler and manually in a space between the press and gained ground. My final advice are to always do a maintenance program and have a minimum 5% sample check on the spot ended with regard to total length, weight and quantity of powder placed shot, it's all in our favor: Do not think never once found the correct parameters and after "baked" a hundred shots all accurate, we should not cure us of these things. The meticulousness is the starting point of recharge.
I want as the last remind you what a great link to an explanation in Italian non-manual press this: http://www.lsoft.it/armi/Pro1000/pro1000.htm
With the hope that there is served as a starting I expect corrections, further experience and other records.
